SMart Travels
I definitely got smarter this weekend at SMartCAMP. I just returned from this conference in NYC via a detour to Pittsburgh. My flight from New York to Chicago couldn’t land due to fog, so we had to re-route to Pittsburgh. Ironically, this gave me the opportunity to visit the Mattress Factory, a museum that I am highlighting in my thesis paper.
While in New York, I attended SMartCAMP for two full days and visited the Brooklyn Museum and MoMA, two museums that I am also writing about. I learned a lot during my trip and would like to share my highlights with you. This post is the first of a series of blog entries about my travels.
To begin, I would like to tell you about an interesting project that I learned about at SMartCAMP from Adam Smith at Dance Theater Workshop. About a year ago, Smith started a series of crowd sourced dance videos called “Twitter Community Choreography”, where he invites people to tweet dance movements and then mashes up these tweets to create a choreographed dance performance. Smith explained that the goal for this series is to break down contemporary dance in a welcoming way. I feel that this is a really clever example of how arts organizations can use Twitter to actively engage audiences. Here is a video from this series:
